I’m usually the one behind the camera, but it was fun to step in front of it and be the star of my article! If you didn’t already know, I am a soon to be graduating senior. Which means, along with classes, working part-time and extra curricular activities, I am trying to find a job. Securing a job in PR is not easy business, especially in a competitive city like Chicago. I have been on many interviews, and dressing for success is key. As much as it is important to dress for the job you want, agency culture can change from one company to another. Dressing for the culture of the agency is important, as well as being comfortable moving around or sitting at a desk. I decided to put together an outfit that can transition from one interview to another without being over or under dressed.
My look was inspired by the fall 2016 ready-to-wear Nina Ricci runway show at Paris Fashion Week. It showcased pieces that were structured and strong, yet displayed feminine touches. This collection differs from others in its incorporation of menswear with the inclusion of tailored pieces and some pieces that were slightly oversized.
When it’s mid-week, and I don’t feel like wearing my contact lenses, I put on my glasses for an unexpected accessory (and yes, I do need these to see. They’re not just a fashion statement). My look centered around my light gray joggers. I took the idea of menswear from the Nina Ricci show and used both the joggers and a structured charcoal blazer. Like pieces in the show, they are both slightly oversized, but they come together when paired with a blouse like this blush tank. The blazer and joggers are not the same color of gray, but they are from the same color family and work perfectly when paired with other neutrals—like my black heels. These are a closet staple, and every woman should own a pair, if only for the versatility they provide.
As for now, the job hunt continues, as does my love for menswear-inspired looks.
