One of the major (and coolest) runway trends of fall 2016 was menswear, which is a style I found myself swooning over, especially in the Calvin Klein pre-fall 2016 collection. When I scrolled through the high fashion and exquisite photos from the runway collection, I was instantly drawn to the loose-fitted pants, business casual pieces and overall flair of the various looks. I was inspired by all of these components and my immediate reaction was to take my favorite elements from the line and make it my own—which I did with this look. Taking into account price and practicality, I took my own spin on this high fashion and indubitably adorable trend.
I was specifically attracted to the loose pants/slacks in the runway show. But in order to make this look more wearable for casual occasions, I opted for some parachute pants that still resembled many of the bottoms featured in the collection. What’s awesome about pants like these is that they can be dressed up or dressed down—both styles were sported by the models for this Calvin Klein collection. I decided to take the dressed down route and make my pants the focal point of my look (with just a simple pair of jeans, my look wouldn’t have stood out). In order to contrast the loose fit and masculinity of my pants, I added a tight crop top in order to still extenuate my figure.
Still playing off of the whole loose fit theme this menswear trend called for, I added a huge oversized cardigan that kept with the relaxed feel of my look. Much of the collection was quite monotone, which I constructed much of my look after, but this cardigan added a pop of color I felt was necessary to give my outfit a little more life. A lot of the outerwear of the collection was unstructured and cape-like, which is why I felt this cardigan was the perfect touch for this spin-off.
As a big fan of comfort, I added some sneakers to make sure I’d be comfortable for a day of walking around the city. Finishing off my look, I added a funky necklace, simple black bag and fun pair of Ray-Bans.
As someone who loves to incorporate both masculine and feminine pieces into my wardrobe, this trend fit perfectly into my everyday style. However, no matter what your go-to look is, this is a trend anyone can pull off.
