Anyone who knows me knows that I live and die by the mini skirt. I will rock a short skirt regardless of whether it’s 70 degrees or 20 degrees. There are so many ways to dress up or dress down a mini skirt—you can pair it with a cute tank top or even a sweater and a pair of warm tights. Despite my deep love for the mini skirt, lately I’ve been dipping into deeper hemlines: the midi skirt.
Falling in between the knee and the ankle, the midi skirt provides a great solution to those fall or spring temperatures that are a bit too cool for short skirts yet a bit too warm to break out the nylons. The Saint Laurent fall 2016 menswear show featured these dramatically longer skirts that elongate the body and are incredibly chic—the perfect way to transition from winter to spring fashion.
Taking inspiration from the Saint Laurent collection, I decided to rock a longer skirt. Mirroring the dark, heavy midi skirts featured in the fall 2016 collection, I opted for a black and blue skirt. I also love that most midi skirts fall a little higher on the waist, creating that slim waist and A-line figure in the magical way that only high-waisted pieces can. To contrast the dark colors of the skirt, I paired the skirt with a crisp, white button-up blouse, which kicked my ensemble up to a business-casual, office-ready look.
To accessorize, I chose a few simple yet fun pieces, including my favorite gold lace-up flats and my black and gold tassel earrings. And of course no look is complete without a black leather bag to tie it all together. I love this ensemble for a day around the city or in the office.
