STYLE GURU STYLE: Military-Inspired

The Marc Jacobs spring 2015 ready-to-wear line takes people back to the iconic military look of the 1960s/1970s. Marc Jacobs amped up these uniform-inspired pieces, making them all look bigger and brighter by using oversized cargo pockets, voluminous silhouettes and bright, shiny buttons. These elements create a unique yet relaxed military look that one could easily wear off the runway. Marc Jacobs best described his lineup by saying these uniforms weren’t so uniform anymore, and to “think of them as surplus clothes with couture tweaks.” He accomplished his goal by giving these uniforms the chic silhouettes of couture looks with the utility of fatigues, which makes them stylish, comfortable and wearable for almost any occasion.

Army green has to be one of my favorite go-to neutral colors in my wardrobe. For my spin on the Marc Jacobs line I started with a versatile and tasteful pair of army green cargo skinny jeans that I purchased at my local Express store. What’s nice about these pants is that they are not only stylish, form fitting and durable but they are also very comfortable to wear. Whether to class or a walk along the Willamette River in Eugene, they keep you looking and feeling right. Next, I added a simple plain white T-shirt to keep the look from being too costume-y while also not taking anything away from my cargo pants. Completing the look with a pair of brown distressed combat boots from Steve Madden dresses down the outfit and completes it perfectly.

Because it’s still winter here in Eugene, I topped my look off with another military-inspired piece—the classic green army jacket. The jacket is a wardrobe piece that is absolutely essential for every Fashionista/o’s wardrobe because it can add to any look, from a floral dress to your favorite pair of jeans, and give it just enough edge. I picked my jacket up at TOBI, which is an awesome online store to find some great steals for just about any look. Whatever you need is just a click away whether you are dressing up or dressing down.

Green on green can be risky, especially when the colors don’t match perfectly, but you can add additional colors and accessories to highlight your outfit. Take a look at Marc Jacob’s new line and you will definitely see what I mean.
