STYLE GURU STYLE: Minkoff's Military

One of my spring wardrobe staples is an olive green military jacket. I love wearing mine with dark skinny jeans and a white T-shirt or dark festival shorts and a black crop top. This lightweight layer is easy to grab on my way out the door and finishes any look perfectly. Normally, I pair my military jacket with relatively casual pieces, but a recent Rebecca Minkoff collection provided me with some inspiration to try something a little bit different.

The Rebecca Minkoff pre-fall 2015 collection was entirely utilitarian based. Each look was completed with an eye-catching olive green military-inspired garment. There were a variety of trench coats and military style jackets worn over black bodycon tops and dresses and leather skirts. This extremely wearable collection inspired me to pair my versatile green jacket with a sexier dress.

My favorite look from this pre-fall collection featured a mini black skirt and an oversized green jacket. The hemlines of each garment were the same length. It was a subtly sexy look, yet it wasn’t too revealing. I decided that I would pair my military jacket with a black bodycon dress. I selected a ’90s-inspired one that I recently purchased from ASOS. I loved the combination of the black mini dress and the oversized jacket—I felt sexy, yet comfortable. For a casual vibe, I rolled up the sleeves of my jacket. To juxtapose that, I slipped into a pair of heels and swiped on some bold red lipstick. To complete my look, I even painted my nails in a light olive green, identical to the shade of my jacket!

This Rebecca Minkoff collection proves that this must-have jacket really can complete any look!
