STYLE GURU STYLE: Mixed Feelings and Mixed Fabrics

Fall is, by far, my favorite season for fashion. Though the temperatures drop and the leaves fall, I almost look forward to bundling up in my favorite jackets and boots. Flashback to New York Fashion Week, also known as every Fashionista/o’s favorite week. We get homework done early, schedule appointments around our favorite designers’ shows and make sure the Wi-Fi is strong enough for seamlessly live streaming a variety of runway shows.

Alexander Wang’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear fashion show is the inspiration behind my look. This show was one of my favorite runway shows from New York Fashion Week. Some of my favorite trends were included in this show, making it so memorable (aside from the pole dancer printed sweater). This line focused on mixing fabrics and mixing feelings. One of my favorite trends seen are the variety of fabrics and textures used in unison throughout Wang’s show. You can express this trend in so many different ways. The best thing about fashion is, it’s all about perspective; anyone can take a trend and put it to use specific to their own style. I paired black corduroy skinny pants with a camel suede jacket (thrifted for seven bucks!) and a leopard print infinity scarf to express my perspective on this trend. I stepped into black leather industrial boots adding to the variety of patterns and textures used in this look. Black leather boots were seen throughout Wang’s show and New York Fashion Week conveying the importance of timeless leather boots for every fall season. Black was a common color used throughout all Alexander Wang’s looks on the runway, so I used black as my base color for this look (like I do almost every day).  As someone who owns and wears a lot of black, I try to look for the color in different materials and textures to add dimension to my all-black pieces.
