Whether you like it or not, fashion trends are in constant rebirth. Just this summer, trends from the โ70s and โ90s were all the rage. They may wither, but there is a good chance that when our children are growing up these trends will be up and running. When I walked into my home wearing the mom jean, my mother chuckled and said, โI used to wear jeans like those! Are they really back in?โ Mom jeans have been featured on ASOS, Forever 21, Topshop and PacSun. After a few weeks of experimenting, I came to the conclusion that this mom jean trend is the best one yet. Needless to say, I am obsessed.
Mom jeans are typically tight around the waist and depending on the style, can be loose-fit or snugger on the thighs. The ones I have on are from the brand Eddie Bauer, but from what decade? I canโt really tell you since I snagged these from my local Goodwill! My biggest tip is to check your local thrift stores first for styles like these. If you find yourself with no luck then ASOS has a wide variety of choices. I found that certain styles of tops worked best with these jeans. For example, these are perfect when I want to wear a crop top, but not show off more skin than what I am comfortable with. Also, tops that are tighter like my black turtleneck balance out the bagginess of the jean.
I decided to cuff the jeans at the bottom to show off the lace-up detail of my peep toe block heels. The olive green gives a subtle hint of color while still staying on trend for fall. The heels give me a few inches of height and helped elongate the legs. To top the look, off I added some cat eye sunglasses just for a bit of extra spunk.
Like I said before, trends will always resurface. I just happen to love my mom jeans probably just as much as my mother loved hers back in the โ80s and โ90s. The key to wearing anything is confidence. So lift up those jeans above your belly button and strut what your momma gave you.
