STYLE GURU STYLE: Monochromatic Denim

One aspect about the new year is a fresh start on life. With the new year brings different clothes, innovative trends and reinventing fashion tastes. Since starting college, I have discovered my own unique taste of clothing, like my aversion to dresses, skirts or anything pink for that matter. Before college, I thought that fashion included only girly clothes with lace, silk and floral. Since then, I have come to realize that fashion is about wearing a statement of who you are, not what people think you should be wearing. Which is why I now enjoy men-inspired apparel that are edgy, effortless, along with a touch of femininity.

I am very inspired by 6397’s pre-fall 2015 collection, which is recognized for its tomboyish raved garments like slouchy boyfriend jeans, oversized sweaters and large T-shirts paired with comfy sneakers. The characteristic of this assortment that I was drawn to was the denim-on-denim appearance. The denim trend is huge right now along with the monochromatic fad and what’s better then both of these modish statements worn together?

I decided to try out this chic monochromatic color scheme for myself, instead of the usual black-on-black garb that is seen everywhere this winter. The skinny jeans are paired perfectly with a causal button-down denim shirt. I chose skinny jeans instead of slouchy boyfriend jeans for a more refined and sleek presence. I layered a black turtleneck for warmth underneath the denim shirt. For that ideal tomboyish vibe, I wore I my favorite broken-in Converse sneakers, because what is masculine attire without comfy sneakers? The simple accessory of elongated black and white earrings added a touch of individuality and femininity to the outfit.

Overall, this ensemble is not girly nor is the color pink in sight, which is precisely why I like the 6397 collection; it’s all about the tomboys in fashion.

Get My Look: 1. A button-down denim shirt. 2. Denim skinny jeans. 3. A pair of broken-in Converse sneakers.
