STYLE GURU STYLE: More Comfort Than Colors

It’s finally December and more importantly, it’s finally cold outside! I can wear sweaters, boots, fleece-lined leggings and knit scarves. It’s my favorite season for fashion since there’s so many great ways to combine layers and keep warm. One of the best parts of winter fashion is how cuddly and comfortable it all is! I got to wear this look and still be just about as comfortable as I’d be in an old oversized sweatshirt.

Something I’ve noticed around college campuses is the return of UGG boots. We all wore them in middle school and early high school, and even though they were about the most comfortable and fuzziest shoes you could wear, they eventually went out of style and seemed childish. Now, for some reason, we’ve started cuffing them so the lining shows and wearing them with our most comfortable leggings—and it’s completely socially acceptable. I don’t understand when or why this trend came back, but I was more than excited to pull my UGG boots back out of my closet and wear them again.

This is an outfit that I don’t actually wear very often. As much as I love this poncho, it’s hard to wear with anything other than red, and since I associate the color red with the holidays, I don’t really like to wear it outside of December. However, I pulled together all of my red in this outfit, from the shirt under the poncho to the purse. Other than that, it’s just tan, gray and overall just neutral. More importantly, it’s really warm and is like being wrapped up in a blanket all day. The southwestern design is tan on the outside and red on the inside, which gives it lots of dimension when it moves. This was a pretty breezy day, so you could see all of the colors and the fringe had some extra movement. Honestly, I thought my friends would make fun of me for practically wearing a blanket all day as a fashion statement, but they really loved the poncho, and when they tried it on, they totally understood why I liked it so much too.

If there’s anything more I could say about this outfit, it would be that I thoroughly enjoyed my day of being 100 percent comfortable. Unlike my usual outfits, there were no constricting jeans, no heeled ankle boots that eventually get uncomfortable when walking across campus and no jacket to take on and off all day long. I understand that this kind of look gives my body no shape or definition, and I kind of just look like a bundle of fabric. But hey, I bet I’m the most stylish bundle of fabric you’ve seen in a long time, so don’t knock it till you try it!
