With fall fast approaching, I know that I’m certainly ready to break into my stash of flannels and jackets so I can finally start layering again. However, not everyone is quite ready to abandon their beloved, sun-kissed summer clothes.
If you’re one of those people then don’t worry, the Whistles 2016 resort collection provides inspiration for a fool-proof way of easing your summer style into the autumn months: the classic and lightweight trucker jacket.
While we’ve previously seen this piece used in more urban looks, the trucker jacket has been given a makeover and is being used all over the runway as part of the breakout ’70s trend. Trucker jackets can now make an outfit look classy instead of casual and polished instead of grunge’esque.
The Whistles collection achieves this by creating jackets that are slightly cropped and feature materials such as suede. Also, the buttons and hardware are kept simple, so much that they are barely noticeable. This collection is very clearly a lover of this ubiquitous ’70s trend as many of the looks involve culottes, wide-leg trousers, or loose silhouettes. They even snuck some floral print in there!
I can’t exactly say that I’m on board with this trend, as I’m still rocking my ’90s everything—but I wanted to find a way to recreate those perfect transitional looks from the collection. I built my outfit around my classic Levi’s army green jacket and opted for my go-to denim cutoffs. With some black accessories and patterned socks, I was feeling more like myself. My look remains very casual, but that keeps it ideal for back to school.
