Who doesn’t love blanket scarves? The answer is probably no one, and if they don’t appreciate them as much as I do, then they’ve never owned one themselves. First, let me tell you the story of how I met my best friend, my blanket scarf. In the midst of shopping for my boyfriend’s sister’s birthday, I was combing the accessory rack at H&M, since you can never go wrong there and then, I spotted it—the blanket scarf. I initially told myself I would give it to his sister for a gift, but then I decided that I needed (not wanted) to keep it.
It was the best $10 I have spent in a long time, and to say I have gotten my money’s worth is an understatement. The scarf has become my go-to accessory for these cold weather months for two reasons. The first being that it is clearly cold outside, and if my grandmother has taught me one thing in life, it was to cover my neck in the winter to protect from nasty colds. The second is that I do not look ridiculous when I use it as a blanket in my seemingly always chilly classrooms.
Considering my scarf is gray, it goes with almost every color there is. Since I am known for having a small variety of colors in my wardrobe, it is perfect for my everyday life. It can be effortlessly paired with black jeans, blue jeans or leggings. You name it, and I have paired it with my blanket scarf. The wonderful thing about blanket scarves is that they come in every color and pattern imaginable, which means you can have one to go with everything.
Looking into my closet and deciding what to wear can be difficult, but sometimes the most simple outfits make the most sense. I paired my plain, H&M black skinny jeans with a babydoll styled top from Express. The necklace I chose is one of my favorites; my grandmother gifted it to me while we were in Greece from a local handmade shop. My booties are another go-to in my closet that I purchased from the H&M in Paris on the Champs-Élysées. They are comfortable and super cute, what more could you ask for? Lastly, my faux leather, black satchel was an absolute steal from Forever 21.
There are so many different ways you can wear blanket scarves besides the draped style I have done. It can be worn as a simple wrap around, a belted cape or as a makeshift poncho; the possibilities are endless. If I was able to go back in my past and tell myself one thing, it would be to invest in a blanket scarf sooner. Don’t wait, go out and get one for yourself.
