STYLE GURU STYLE: My ‘Overall' Favorite Trend

I owned my first pair of overalls in first grade. They were black corduroy, and I rocked them with my favorite Scottish Terrier turtleneck. I tell you that embarrassing side story to show you just how far overalls have come from our first tragic shot at love in first grade. As I grew up, the ’90s child at heart continued to love overalls. Luckily, a few designers agreed with me and added overalls to their stunning spring collections. From Sonia Rykiel’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection to hipsters on the streets of Nashville, my hopes for a reconciliation with overalls has been answered! Rykiel’s collection includes classic jean overalls with loads and loads of stripes.

To recreate the look, I paired my favorite classic denim overalls with this season’s trendy crop top to keep the look fresh and fun. I found this pair of overalls that I adore at a thrift shop for five dollars. You can easily find a pair at your local Goodwill or go as high end as this pair from Adam Selman’s collection. The jean material of the overalls keeps the look extremely casual and versatile. The striped crop top resembles pieces from Rykiel’s collection. If stripes aren’t exactly your style, you can easily add a cheetah top or any funky pattern under the overalls to match your personality.

I kept the look as comfy as the overalls themselves by adding my high-top Converse All-Stars. As functional as they are stylish, these beauties have stood the test of time in the fashion world.

My jewelry is kept to a minimum, but I added rings that fit this cute look. I love accessories that tell stories, so I included my spoon ring. The spoon ring was originally a trend in the ’80s that has made its’ way back into the hearts of Southern women. This specific ring was handmade at a local flea market where the owner of the small booth handcrafted each ring from salvaged antique spoons.

Get My Look: 1. Denim overalls. 2. Striped crop top. 3. Converse All-Stars.
