How did summer go by so fast? Trends have been coming in and out all season but one thing I always love is what designers are doing with denim.
Marc Jacobs spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection which is what inspired me a lot for this look. They incorporated retro vibes, allowing us to be taken back to the punk era in New York City. As Vogue puts it “This season he indulged his insatiable, catholic tendencies; high culture, low and things in between mingled on the runway.” The designs not only warmed our hearts, but the show was also totally irresistible. In one look, they put together a pin/patchwork denim jacket and paired it with matching coloured striped pant which is the look that I took inspiration from. They incorporated red, white and blue wherever he could to bring back more nostalgia in this collection and take many people’s breaths away.
The main focus of my outfit is the patchwork denim jacket. I took the punk elements from the Marc Jacobs show and incorporated them all into this jacket. What I love about this piece is that you can really give it your own touch and make it unique with different patches or even pins you find. I’ve taken many of my patches from places I’ve been to, to make the jacket like a scrapbook.
The color of the jacket contrasts well with the light blue denim shorts which gives the outfit a hard hitting double denim look. I wanted to make the outfit different by simply taking the jean jacket inspiration from Marc Jacobs collection and pairing it with a booty short instead of stripes. I wanted to keep the look very casual, so I paired it with super comfortable Puma high-tops in white. For accessories, you can see that I didn’t put any on and that’s because I wanted to keep the look simple and keep the focus on the jacket.
This jacket has become one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe and something that I can cherish and look back on. As Marc Jacobs says “…find beauty in things that are odd and imperfect—they are much more interesting.”
