Vertically striped garments have and will always go a very long way (pun intended) when pulling together an outfit. Whether the stripes are thick, thin, black, white or multi-colored, a striped print never fails to give an ensemble a timeless, edgy and chic look.
The Jean Paul Gaultier spring 2016 couture collection showcased the many ways vertical stripes can just make an outfit so effortlessly-chic. The collection consisted of structured cuts, playful details and classic silhouettes. While admiring the collection, it was obvious a chic and cool vibe was combined with a relaxed and somewhat comfortable feel to create unique pieces throughout. I was immediately drawn to look 13; the classic pin-striped suit with an edgy structured look definitely inspired my entire ensemble because who doesn’t dream to re-create a classic look with an edgy spin, right?
Taking this edgy and classic pin striped look as inspiration, I decided to combine the elements of structured silhouettes along with the classic black and white tones to re-create what I thought to be an extremely effortlessly-chic ensemble.
My outfit included a classic pin striped pencil skirt which obviously was what I wanted to be immediately recognized as my statement piece; the structured fit of the skirt definitely adhered to the look similarly seen in the collection. Pairing the skirt with a basic white cotton top complimented the skirt perfectly. Adding a black trendy bomber jacket pulled the ensemble together.
This simple yet classic look demonstrates how versatile vertical stripes can be effortlessly pulled together creating timeless ensembles.
