Chloé’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear runway show consisted of oversized denim garments, tracksuits, crochet and lace mini dresses and lots of color. This design house, led by creative director Clare Waight Keller, always presents some of my favorite runway shows, as they usually contain a feminine and whimsical aesthetic. It was interesting to see the design house incorporating its usual billowy silhouettes and beautiful lace and embroidery work alongside denim joggers, casual tank tops and athletic jackets. It was the perfect combination of bohemian and athletic fashions, which are two of my favorite styles to wear.
This season, ’90s fashions were prevalent, and Chloé presented this trend one way, with oversized denim tops, bottoms and overalls. I portrayed this trend with an oversized denim jacket from Brandy Melville that I am absolutely obsessed with. It has been my go-to jacket since the summer that can easily be dressed up or down and used as a layering piece for any season. I’ve been able to get a lot more use out of it this winter, since it has been a little warmer than usual.
Staying true to my love of neutrals, I paired the jacket with a cream sweater, which adds some texture to the outfit, and a pair of high-waisted black skinny jeans. These two pieces are staples in my wardrobe that I constantly mix and match. High-waisted bottoms are some of my favorite pieces, and I love how flattering they can be by concealing my midsection.
I also added a cheetah print heel to add some print to the classic outfit. I usually gravitate toward buying a neutral, or let’s be honest, black, shoe, so I wanted to branch out when I purchased these amazing Free People heels that were also on sale. The lace-up style is on-trend, and the shoe itself is a fun addition to my closet that I can’t stop wearing. It also helps that they’re surprisingly comfortable and add a little edge to this classic ensemble.
To complete the outfit, I accessorized with cream and gold earrings, my favorite black leather watch and a large camel handbag that holds anything and everything I need for the day.
Add a little ‘90s style to your look this season, whether it’s by throwing on some grungy boots, a flannel, chocker or taking a hint from Chloé and wearing oversized denim. Your closet will thank you for it.
