I love the idea of wearing what is considered undergarments or pajamas out in public for everyone to see. By pajamas I don’t mean sweatpants, but rather a slip dress or silk robe, the nice pajamas that are too pretty to just sleep in. For inspiration on how to wear those cute pajamas in public than look to the spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection from Balenciaga. For their spring ready-to-wear show white silk reigned supreme. The collection was light, flowy and had a lingerie/lounge wear look to it.
For my own take on this trend, I chose a loose slip dress to wear. While the looks from Balenciaga were all-white with the only pop of color coming from a black pin stripe featured on a couple of the looks, I chose a slip dress in a pale blue color. The ruching around the bottom of the dress replicates the bottoms of the silk shirts in the collection. The collection also featured a lot of intricate white lace so to bring some lace into my look I chose a pair of espadrilles with light pink lace.
While Balenciaga’s spring ready-to-wear collection is Parisian boudoir style I styled my look for a seaside escape. Pairing the slip dress with a cream knit bralette and lace-up espadrilles this look is ready for any beach day activities. The beauty of this trend is that it can be styled to fit anyone’s style and still look amazing; all you need is your favorite silk pajamas in a cut and color of your choice!
