Alexander McQueen was known for his cynical yet beautiful haute couture pieces as a designer; with his passing in 2010 his legacy continues. Oyster pink is the next big color trend and Alexander McQueen‘s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection had its fair share of this feminine color. Black, pale pink, ruffles, lace and leather dominated the runway for this collection. Alexander McQueen is known for their dark yet romantic looks and although they’re couture, there are still ways you can incorporate their style into your everyday wear.
Looking through this fall ready-to-wear collection, you repetitively see pink ensembles with cinched waistlines. Here my top from H&M imitates exactly that. What’s nice about these tops is that they’re much more flattering than your typical tunic or shift dress, with the same amount of comfort. There is also lace detailing down the center of my shirt that adds interest. For bottoms I’m wearing crochet shorts that peak out from underneath my top. These unique shorts add texture and extra coverage to this outfit. They are also very versatile, being perfect for layering spring/summer outfits or covering up at the beach. My style bounces back and forth from romantic/boho (layers, texture and patterns) to grungy streetwear (leather, oversized and dark neutral colors) which is why I love Alexander McQueen’s influence so much.
Accessories can really pull an outfit together. You can change a look completely based on how you accessorize. For jewelry I stuck with all-gold colored pieces. My costume bracelet from J.Crew has beige and oyster pink colored stones with gold and black accents. My dark sapphire ring is a hand-me-down from family. My necklace is an opal “hamsa” symbol. I love ancient history and have several pieces of jewelry with symbols based on their different meanings. The upside down hand has different meaning among different religions, but is most commonly known as a symbol for protection. The necklace’s blue opal has reflective properties that is gorgeous in the sun and super flattering against any skin tone. My bag is a tan Rebecca Minkoff Fringe Mini Mac. For shoes I’m wearing a simple pair of strappy tan sandals that also match my bag.
“I want to empower women. I want people to be afraid of the women I dress,” McQueen once said. I love this quote because what I take from it is that as women we should radiate confidence anywhere we go, especially if it’s a boost of confidence through our dress. I also don’t think he meant afraid in the way we normally portray it. I take it that we should intimidate and shock through bold attire; make a statement with fashion.
