STYLE GURU STYLE: Pattern Party

Recently looking back at some old photo albums, I realized how spunky my style used to be. I would wear anything from a bright orange tank and plaid pants, to the now trendy denim overall dress. That is why for this week’s article I wanted to present you guys and gals with a look inspired by the resort 2016 Clover Canyon collection. The arrangement of pieces was colorful and quirky, which left an impression of youth and happiness. It fed into the fashion population’s burning desire for a more vintage or classic look. Growing up watching That ‘70s Show, I find that there is a distinct ‘70s characteristic from the wooden platform sandals, to the halter crop tops and the psychedelic print of many of the garments.

Taking inspiration from the quirky mix of patterns and color, I created this look. Using a floral shift dress, paired with a bold silk scarf (originally from Coldwater Creek), and black strappy sandals, I gave the vibe shown in the 2016 resort collection a go. I continue the fun and youthful vibe by swirling my locks into a loose topknot, making the look a bit more wearable and trendy (and more realistic for the heat in summer). While I did not replicate the makeup look shown on the Clover Canyon runway, it would be as simple as thick, black eyeliner and some light, dewy foundation (for those of us who don’t have flawless skin). With the scarf and dress, I wanted to mix some patterned elements to achieve the same psychedelic feel. I love the unusual combination of the two and how it does not overpower the entire look. Rather than chose two bright and bold prints, I went with a more subdued pattern for the dress, but used the scarf to really make this outfit pack a punch of color. And can we talk about those pockets please? I love how they are hidden, but practical in size for storing a phone or keys.

The way Rozae Nichols and her design team works color, prints and modern trends into her clothing is seamless. If any of you Fashionistas/os are looking to add some spice to your look, I would definitely head on over to Clover Canyon’s resort 2016 collection. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and colors, but in the end you will know if it is the right look for you.
