The pleated trend has been popping up in numerous shows for resort wear 2016 and I couldn’t be happier! Designers who featured pleated pieces include Valentino, Dior, Altuzarra, Oscar de la Renta and Christopher Kane.
My favorite take on this trend, and resort wear for 2016 in general, has to be from Altuzarra’s resort 2016 show. Each and every look that went down the runway was brilliantly crisp and fresh. I love how each outfit complements fresh and relaxed vacation vibes. In each piece from this collection there is a clear focus on clean lines and strategic pops of color, which I find to be very inspiring.
From this show, the outfit that inspired me the most and that I decided to emulate was look two. It features a structured white blouse paired with a pleated coral skirt. While the bearings of my own closet differ significantly from any Altuzarra pieces, I decided to incorporate the structure of look two with clothing I already own. The overall color scheme of my wardrobe is a lot darker and more vampy than Altuzarra’s resort 2016 show, so I had little choice in incorporating this color scheme into my outfit.
Instead of a coral pleated skirt (which I don’t own), I opted for an oxblood pleated skirt for my own outfit. I paired my skirt with a silky white Theory blouse that channels the underwear as outerwear trend. For my shoes I stuck with black Sam Edelman wedges. Finally, to top the look off I added a pearl necklace and, you guessed it, a Panama hat. Everything from my outfit is thrifted, excluding my Panama hat, which I purchased at Urban Outfitters (on sale!).
My outfit is a prime example of how you can take outfit inspiration from outside sources and make them your own, as well as channel designer vibes without a designer budget.
