STYLE GURU STYLE: Plaid to Meet You

It has come that time where models strut down the runway wearing fabulous new pieces during the iconic fashion week. If you’re like me, you cannot wait to see the new collections designers come out with and hope to one day be sitting front row witnessing all of the magic firsthand. The shows for spring 2016 showcased all types of trends. Since we are well into fall and soon approaching winter, these trends have to be adapted into warmer, more practical outfits. One major trend seen on the runway was gingham and plaid inspired ensembles. Victoria Beckham’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection features several pieces with this trend. Her pieces use gingham, a light cotton material with criss crossing lines. Since it is getting colder each day, you may want to wear something a little bit heavier. Plaid, or tartan, is your best bet. Plaid resembles the same criss cross pattern but its typically made with a heavier material such as wool.

The plaid skirt adds style to any look and can be used to resemble a uniform. Coming from a private school, I know how daunting plaid can be. This outfit is a stylish take on the typical plaid outfit, somewhat inspired by your favorite Gossip Girl character Serena van der Woodsen. The skirt is mainly gray and black with hints of marsala, which happens to be Pantone’s 2015 color of the year. The traces of marsala give the skirt a subtle pop of color. In order to have the emphasis remain on the skirt, the rest of the outfit is simple and clean. You really cannot go wrong with a white blouse and a dark colored knit cardigan.

What else would complete a fall outfit but a tall pair of leather boots? This is a must in any wardrobe. Lastly, a cute leather backpack will come in handy especially if you’re wearing this outfit to class. Now that you have the perfect fall alternative to this runway trend, it’s time to channel your inner Gossip Girl. Xoxo.
