It has been very hot in Chicago these days. The best way to beat the heat is to wear something light and colorful. Wearing a bold graphic print for summer is an effortless way to stay fashionable.
I was inspired by Diane von Furstenburg’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection’s use of tribal and African prints. She had a wide variety of vibrant prints with light purple, orange and red hues. The collection is very feminine and ‘70s inspired. This was also the decade that African dashikis (a garment traditionally worn in West Africa) gained popularity.
African prints have re-emerged to the fashion scene this summer. The dashiki is comfortable and lightweight, and helps to stay cool. Wearing this print definitely turns heads. Keeping things boho chic I paired the look with turquoise chandelier earrings. The earrings really pull the look together, as it takes the dashiki from casual to elegant. To complete this outfit I am wearing ankle gladiator sandals. That is another current fashion trend for shoes.
This look can be worn to the beach, festivals or just a hot summer day outside. Never steer away from loud prints and statement jewelry because it is so fun to wear! It can be worn with sandals or wedge heels. The dashiki is a staple colorful piece to add to your wardrobe. It is universal, and can easily be translated into fall by pairing it with leggings and ankle booties. Diane von Furstenberg is a designer who is never afraid to play with prints and flowy silhouettes. Which is why her spring 2016 collection resonated with my style.
