Just when one thought that the color pink was already everywhere in the fashion world, this past month has strengthened its continued presence throughout spring 2017. It began with New York Fashion Week, when the hue was noticed to be an ongoing trend among designers, and in London the beloved shade made several appearances on the runway as well. When we arrived at Milan, designer Alessandro Michele and his most recent collection for Gucci took place within an all-pink room, from its carpet and chairs down to the hazy lighting.
With so many of those in the fashion world thinking pink, I’ve pretty much considered the color to be a neutral—from pretty pastels to bold tones, pink is this season’s favorite shade! While pink hit the spring runways in full force, it is the street stars that we can also turn our attention to as we get ready for the warm weather and look for ways to ditch our all-black everything and take on this versatile hue.
Here, I have chosen a monochromatic pink look, stepping outside of my sartorial comfort zone and trying out head-to-toe color with blush culottes and a sweater in a slightly darker tone. To add a subtle contrast, I chose to tie a scarf with brown, earthy tones loosely around my neck. As for footwear, simple, white slide sandals were the best option.
Whether you choose palest blush or dusky hues, the sweet, sugary shade has most definitely had a fashion-forward makeover for this season, and I believe it is set to convince even the most stubborn of pink critics. If you need a little bit of encouragement, look to Audrey Hepburn, who once said, “Ladies, I believe in pink.” As far as this season is concerned, I think she was on to something!
