With New York Fashion Week in full swing, Fashionistas everywhere are searching the web for the latest and greatest trends. Being a fellow Fashionista, I have spent copious amounts of time studying the runway recaps on Style.com these past few weeks. One of my favorite trends in the fall 2015 ready-to-wear shows are the plaid prints found in the Red Valentino line. Grunge meets girly with a mixture of flannel shirts, faux fur and slouchy striped sweaters over floral skirts and dresses. Despite most looks having some sort of skirt or dress involved, the flannels and sweaters juxtapose the more feminine nature of the garment, providing a fresh take on daywear.
Flannels and plaid play a key role in my wardrobe. I am constantly on the hunt for new oversize flannels, whether it be from a thrift store, from my dad’s closet or just a regular clothing store. Here, I paired my red Urban Outfitters flannel with dark jeans for a daytime look, perfect for any casual occasion. I paired the outfit with Cole Haan suede booties that happen to be waterproof, which is convenient when there is snow on the ground or it is raining on campus. The tan panama hat gives the outfit a unique, but more masculine look than the Red Valentino line.
Red Valentino is often known for its feminine silhouettes and understated color palette, but their first show of 2015 departs from their traditional style. Next time, I am going to try to pair a boyish flannel with a skirt or dress like Red Valentino to get a more feminine look.
