It’s summer, and the trends this season are definitely showing it! As always, bright colors are a big part of the transition to summer, but this year in particular I noticed a certain color was being used a lot. Throughout the Alice + Olivia spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection, the main color I noticed was the prolific use of bright red. This color was not only an accent color, but was being used through entire outfits to make a bold statement. While blacks and whites were still shown as key pieces in the show, it appears red has become the new “pop” color for this summer. It was used for loose casual pants, crop tops as well as just embroidered accents. This color adds an all-around pop to any summer outfit!
When it came to translating the use of this bright color into my own outfits, I found it extremely versatile; it was amazing for any type of look I was going for. Whether you have a wedding to go to or just a casual cookout, this color can be added to help your outfit make a real statement!
For this look, I decided to do more of a dressy, casual look. I used a black pleated accordion-style skirt to reflect the basic colors being used throughout the Alice + Olivia collection. For my pop of color, I paired my skirt with a bright red crop top! By adding a full clothing article of red instead of just a red accessory, I was able to make a bold statement in the style of the collection. I also decided to pair the outfit with a thick, lace choker and some black strappy heels, both in black. By keeping my other clothing articles in neutral tones, I was able to make the pop of red as bold as the Alice + Olivia collection did.
