It’s no secret that I’ve always loved a good plaid shirt and fall is the time for plaid to shine. But this season has brought about a different type of plaid; windowpane plaid. With more of a simple, scaled back look, this basic plaid pattern is the more sophisticated cousin of traditional plaid. If gingham is for spring, then windowpane plaid is for autumn. It popped up all over the ready-to-wear runways, from Chanel to Chloé, proving that it’s this season’s must-have print.
Orla Kiely’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection is exactly my style. The mostly monochromatic collection has windowpane plaids, collars, cardigans, floaty dresses and so many more of my essential style pieces. I chose to stick with the less colorful side of the collection, wearing only black and white. The makeup for the collection was also very neutral and flawless, almost like the models weren’t wearing anything.
It’s also no secret that I love mod fashion. So when I found this shirt from Old Navy in my closet, I knew it would be the perfect thing to pair with a drop waist tank dress. The collar poking out gives it a very smart, sleek look while the dropped waist takes the look from modern times to mod times. If you didn’t want to pair this type of shirt with a dress, I love wearing chiffon tops with a nude undershirt to hide the necessary bits but not stand out and overpower the shirt.
