It’s that time of the year again. It is the best of times, it is the worst of times. As the semester is nearing its end, the excitement over holiday sales and Christmas carols playing on every corner of the city begins. However, the stress of finals stirs in the brain. It’s the nightmare before Christmas. During this hectic time we must stay positive and finish strong. This is why I’ve decided to redefine my style.
I don’t know about you but give me either a blazer, a leather jacket or a trench coat and I can take on the world. When the materials of either of those layering pieces touch my skin, I understand the significance of the scene when Peter Parker puts on his spiderman costume. I feel confident, daring and whole. I’m no superhero but a blazer, a leather jacket and trench coat give me hope.
I was recently inspired by Tommy Hilfiger’s ready to wear spring/summer 2017 collection. The collection is heavily influenced by the marine/boating style, which is exactly why I fell in love with it. My love for fashion began with my fixation with costumes and because of these thematic designs I recognize my own style and how limitless it is. For my look I decided to wear my high gray socks with black ankle booties, a black buttoned up skirt, a navy and white striped shirt and a blue scarf. Let the pieces of fabric that kisses and hugs your skin envelope you in confidence. For me, this outfit did just that.
P.S. If you feel as if you are drowning in projects, exams and essays, take a break and examine yourself. Self-care comes first whether it’s redefining your style or decluttering your room realize what it is you need to uplift your spirits to help you finish this semester on a positive note.
