This just in, ruffles are not going anywhere anytime soon. Runway shows ranging from spring 2016 to spring 2017 prove that the trend is going to sit down and stay awhile. Personally, I am happy that this trend is sticking around for a few seasons. You may not instantly think of ruffles as versatile, but they add flare to the simplest of pieces. Some designers keep the ruffles subtle for a minimalist look that has a special aesthetic and others are going full force with floral patterns for a romantic look.
The dress I am wearing above is romantic, but is more on the minimalist side of the spectrum because it is black with no prints or patterns. For this look, I was mostly inspired by Jason Wu’s ruffled dresses in his spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. He mixes the perfect amount of minimal and romantic for a classy, refined look. I mimicked this look and paired my ruffled, off-the-shoulder dress (another popular trend) with a pair of black flatform heels. I also kept my accessories to a minimum, similar to how Jason Wu did for his runway show. I am wearing three simple rings and a necklace that falls perfectly above the dress. I kept the look neutral with a white envelope bag that has small gold details.
This look I put together is perfect for going out on the town in the summertime, whether it is to a party with friends or to dinner with your family. You can easily dress up and down the ruffled dress. For example, throw on a pair of strappy sandals and hit up your favorite outdoor shopping mall or put on a pair of classy heels and head to that summer wedding you didn’t know what to wear to.
