STYLE GURU STYLE: Rock ‘n' Neutrals

Alexander Wang’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear line was everything a minimalist could ever dream of. Wang showcased deconstructed denim and leather, resulting in an overall rock ‘n’ roll vibe. Keeping to his signature design style, Wang kept the color palette mostly neutral. The looks were modern and will go perfectly in any Fashionista’s street style wardrobe. I was instantly drawn to the textures of each look, but my favorite was a white long sleeve top with lace-up details and leather crop pants. Alexander Wang is such an influential designer in today’s industry because of his eye for detail and execution. As Vogue.com said, “Wang intuitively gets what the downtown cool girl wants to wear.”

I am a huge advocate for neutral colors so you can understand why I chose this particular runway show as my favorite. My daily outfits tend to stay pretty monochrome with touches of color or print so this was a great fit for me. I thumbed through the endless pieces of white, gray and black in my closet to put together this Alexander Wang-inspired look. A great leather jacket is a staple in my wardrobe and the one I have chosen stays structured while flattering my curves. Leather was a large feature in Wang’s runway show and I knew that I just had to incorporate it in my look.  On the runway, each white piece had some sort of intricate detail or texture. I chose to wear white distressed jeans because even though it’s now fall, Los Angeles is determined to hold onto the summer weather. For my top, I went with a gray sleeveless mock-neck shirt. Both the top and jeans are perfect for that in-between stage of seasons and keep a minimalistic effect.

Details, details, details!  Alexander Wang chose studded black and neutral platform sandals for his runway and I have to admit that I’m not crazy about studding. Instead of sandals, I chose peep toe booties to help dress up this everyday look and also tie in the black from my leather jacket. I believe that shoes can make or break an outfit, so this decision took a little bit of time for me. My metallic cat eye sunglasses and dark lip color add more of a nod to the rocker atmosphere of Wang’s show. Overall, I wanted to keep the essence of Alexander Wang alive in my look and give him a round of applause for his creativity. I can’t wait to see what designs he comes up with next!
