STYLE GURU STYLE: Rock the Ruffles

Many people hear the word ruffles and automatically cringe. Ruffles are something that you wore only as a child, so why would you want to wear them again? In excess, they can be a bad thing—but they are coming back into style, and in a good way. Cute flowy dresses, off-the-shoulder tops and even T-shirts featuring ruffles are a fashion trend that you cannot miss out on.

Any outfit that encompasses ruffles is automatically accessorized. Although you may have to add a bracelet, anklet or ring, the outfit is immediately complete. Most tops that feature this style are unable to have any sort of chunky statement necklace, so the time used for finding the right jewelry has now disappeared. This kind of top is a bold piece, so let it be one. Don’t take away from it by adding too much to the outfit, because it could end up looking cluttered and unorganized.

Having such a versatile top makes it easier to use in many different ways; this can make getting dressed a much easier task. Looking for clothes that will help save money by being used multiple ways is essential. Pair a ruffled top with leggings and you have a casual everyday outfit. Pair it with a skirt, and you are dressed up and ready to go. Ruffles can appear on sleeves, lining the bottom of tops, across a neckline or even on the bottom of sleeves. There are so many different varieties of these tops.

Many designers are encompassing this design into their clothing lines. This trend is taking off, and fast. They can be used in outfits for everyday wear, outfits for going out and even outfits for different events where one is required to look their absolute best. Knowing how to use a piece with such a dramatic top can help with finding what to pair it with. The outfit that I am wearing features a white ruffled top that I purchased at H&M. It’s light and easy to wear, a perfect ‘cool weather’ shirt. The jeans, a go-to for the fall season, are from American Eagle, along with the sunglasses. The black booties are an essential purchase from Charlotte Russe. The red purse, which adds a pop of color, is from Kate Spade.
