If you are a Gilmore Girls aficionado like me, you’ll know that coffee-addict Lorelai Gilmore makes the denim-on-denim look totally acceptable and fashionable. Plus, this look is absolute ‘70s vibes.
Too risky? Actually, the only risk with this look is that you may look bland in one color, but other than that, what once was deemed a sin in the fashion world is now widely allowable. Of course, like in any other great outfit there are dos and there are definitely major don’ts .
Why? Well, the key to wearing denim-on-denim is to use different shades and avoid a plain look. Don’t use a single shade of denim because opting for too much of one shade will drown you out. Do use different shades of denim because they flatter and hide some of our body parts. Oh, and for the love of God, do not end up looking like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. They are the perfect example of how utterly wrong the denim-on-denim look can go.
To rock this denim look it is also a great idea to go for a longer shirt or sweater underneath a denim jacket because it creates contrast with the slim fitting lower half. For this particular look I am wearing a long, oversize knit sweater from Express and light-wash denim jeans. As for my oversize jean jacket from Forever 21, it is a slightly darker shade of denim and has fun graphic patches all over it. To top it all off, I put on these super chic and utmost comfortable black booties. There is the infamous double denim look that everybody secretly loves!
