Balmain is the fashion brand everyone is talking about this month. The collaboration with H&M had everyone going crazy. It was released during the 5th of November, and it exploded all over social media with hashtags like #Balmania. Unfortunately after desperately trying to buy a couple of items online, they sold out. So I decided that if I could not get an item from that collection, I would just get inspiration from their spring/summer 2016 collection. This collection was an incredible combination of ruffles, bib-fronts and a pastel and black palette. This broad range of trends in the collection show that there is something for everyone. My favorite look was a black ruffle dress with a section in the middle with black embellishments. It looks polished and trendy! I feel like it is the perfect combo between romantic and edgy.
After figuring out that I wanted to focus on the ruffle trend, I decided to use that as inspiration to come up with an outfit that was adequate for winter, but at the same time hinting at the upcoming season. I decided to go for a top with ruffle sleeves and cutouts on the top. This top has a lot of movement, so it is perfect for a day-to-night outfit. The ruffles and the design definitely reminded me of Spain. When I think of Spain, I think about flamenco dancers, music, energy and cultural festivals. I truly believe that when you incorporate an idea and a feeling to an outfit, it instantly translates. As I wore this outfit, I felt happy and energetic, even though I was on the middle of finals!
For the makeup for this look, I incorporated a smokey eye using the first version of the NAKED palette from Urban Decay. This palette is my personal favorite because the ranges of colors are the bases of what every girl’s makeup collection should be. Also, I added one of my newest lipsticks. I used Bobbi Brown’s Rouges à Lèvres lipstick. I thought it would be a nice touch to channel the classical red color flamenco dancers have on their dresses.
For your next shopping trip, be sure to keep in mind that ruffles are making a huge comeback. I got inspiration from Balmain but a vast amount of designers are incorporating this trend into their looks. Get inspired, and show us your best take on this trend!
