Hello fellow Fashionistas/os! I am thrilled to be writing for CollegeFashionista this summer and to report on the go-to looks for the season at the beautiful Kent State University. I am pursuing a double major in fashion design and magazine journalism. My absolute dream job would be either writing for the likes of Vogue or doing the hand sewing in haute couture houses.
Choosing to pursue a career so directly involved in fashion practically mandates an individual style. My personal sense of style is one I have spent years honing in on, admittedly with more than a couple bumps along the way (Sweater vests? Bright blue eye shadow and pink lipstick? What was I thinking?!). Entering my third year of college, I have definitely developed a unique point of view and taste for style. I love color, patterns and textures; the more I can mix together, while still looking good, the more I love an outfit.
Dressing for a summer day in Ohio, I need to be prepared for the weather to change about a hundred times in a day. Keeping the sporadic weather in mind when choosing an outfit, my first thought is layers. I chose a light three-quarter length sleeve sweater with a simple black and white polka dot pattern. This is a versatile piece that can be worn year-round and it can be paired with any colors and many different prints. Underneath my sweater, I have a bright yellow backless halter top that has a slight peplum. I love a light blouse with a peplum, especially when I tuck it into a full skirt. Full skirts are a popular and feminine look, it is one of my personal favorite trends to come back into style. Being rather short, I stick to skirt lengths above the knee with a large overall pattern. With so many elements going on in one outfit, I keep my accessories simple and understated, allowing the colors and prints of my clothing to hold the spotlight.
