Satin has become my summertime obsession. With each trip I took to the thrift store this summer, I found myself coming home with multiple slip dresses and satin pajamas. Boudoir street style is currently trending and pieces that may have been reserved for lounging in the house are now being worn casually with jeans, leather jackets and sneakers. Satin can be worked into any wardrobe and be appropriately worn for any occasion with the correct styling.
Today I took my inspiration from Balenciaga’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. Each season different designers manage to invent new looks and reinvent past styles. Femininity changes form on the runway from year to year, and Balenciaga managed to channel femininity into sporty, sophisticated and casual looks with only the color white and delicate fabrics. Satin, silk and lace floated down the runway. While the color and fabrics created a cohesive collection, the diverse silhouettes made for an inclusive collection from which everyone can draw inspiration.
All my summer spent thrift shopping did my closet some good. I found this lace ruffle blouse and these white satin pajama pants on one of my trips. The combination of details in the top are different than what I have seen before. When I saw these pants I knew they would be perfect for a boudoir street style look. Both the blouse and pants fit the theme of Balenciaga’s collection and are versatile on their own.
To personalize the look I kept my jewelry limited to rings but I wore plenty. And to liven up this monochrome, I borrowed some flowers from a nearby tree to add texture and detail. I love sticking flowers where they don’t necessarily belong.
