Over the last month or so, I’ve been trying to get out of wearing the same type of clothing. I tend to stick to classic pieces, neutrals and an overall conservative look. If you’ve read any of my previous articles, you’ll know that unfortunately I have a slight obsession with the color black. Since New Year’s Eve was on the last day of December, I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and close the year out with a bang. With that being said, there is no better way to stand out than in a gold-sequined dress. It’s something that is bold but classy and the best part is that you only need minimal jewelry.
My inspiration for this look came from a few pieces in Rachel Zoe’s pre-fall 2016 collection. This collection had a diverse selection of clothing but as a whole remained extremely cohesive. The majority of the color palette in this collection consisted of black and gold or black with some sort of neutral tones. Two of the looks that stood out to me were the long, metallic gold dress paired with the black boots as well as the off-white dress with a gold-sequined bust. Between these two looks, I knew that I had to find a way to recreate it.
Taking this inspiration from Rachel Zoe, I paired a gold-sequin dress with black thigh-high boots. This season the thigh-high boots have been super trendy and this was the perfect opportunity to break them out considering that this dress is a mini. Though a necklace isn’t necessarily needed in this look, I still wanted to accessorize so I paired this with a tortoise shell statement necklace. This look is super easy to recreate and it is perfect for this festive season!
