STYLE GURU STYLE: Short-Chic

There is nothing fiercer than an outfit completed by a wicked coat. But that isn’t the only way to throw onlookers for a loop. Instead of just a coat paired with simple jeans or a more formal pant, why not pair them with something leg baring? Now, I have been a fan of alice + olivia for quite some time now but their fall 2015 ready-to-wear line exceeds all expectations I had. The models look regal and powerful in bold colors and gasp-worthy coats and that is a line worth celebrating.

So how exactly does a person work a coat or jacket and a leg baring bottom? (Leg baring bottoms are usually deemed appropriate for warm weather but when in Rome.)

The first step is to find a coat or jacket that has a bit of character to it. It doesn’t have to be the most magical coat ever created but it does need to have a personality of its own if it’s to hold a candle even remotely close to the coats in this line. Then the next step is to find a pair of shorts or a skirt that is as equally remarkable. The skirt I’m wearing fits this bill because of the mix of texture, pattern and envelope cut that is both unusual and attractive to the eye. I paired my short jacket with a loose turtleneck, much like the first look in the collection.

Get My Look: 1. A black turtleneck. 2. A swanky skirt. 3. A jacket or coat that puts all others to shame.
