Once upon a time in a high school far, far away, I never would have dreamed of partnering faux leather pants with a fur vest. In fact, I never would have dreamed of wearing faux leather pants. Leather, in my mind, was reserved for bikers and fathers experiencing mid-life crises. Why would any college girl have a pair in her wardrobe?
This past year, I had a change of heart after flipping through my old issues of Vogue and Teen Vogue. If my idol, Emma Watson, could rock a leather jacket in Teen Vogue’s back-to-school issue, then that was to be my next step. This counts as a pre-req on my path to major in Emma Watson, correct?
Apart from Watson’s fearless attitude in her article, Alexander Vauthier’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear show features leather pants that reek of pent up girl power with a hint of man repellent—Leandra Medine would be proud! The models pose alongside football players who attempt to emulate the tough vibe Vauthier’s clothing gives off. However, the models prove victorious in his designs.
I mimicked this collection on my recent trip to Nashville. While in the city where the go-to staple is a pair of light wash denim jeans, I stuck out, to say the least. The amount of confidence I gained far exceeded any disapproval, though.
A pair of faux leather—yes PETA, they are faux—will make any Fashionista feel like Emma Watson circa August 2013, Catwoman or one of the kick-A models from Alexander Vauthier’s high school themed photo shoot. Partner a pair of black faux leather pants with a red lip and you will be set!
