It’s hard to believe that the summer is nearly over. It already feels like ages ago I was in New York City interning for Sea New York. Living in the city, even for a short time, had a huge effect on my clothing choices. Walking everywhere all day was very different from driving to campus and sitting in an air conditioned classroom. I spent a lot of time running errands and walking endless blocks, so my style had to adapt. Another factor was the heat. Yes, I’m from Mississippi but the heat in New York was nothing to scoff at! I found myself simplifying my outfits to just a few pieces and keeping things as light and airy as possible.
For this look, I was obviously inspired by Sea New York, since this is a dress from their spring/summer ready-to-wear 2016 collection. One reason I admire Sea’s brand is because it focuses on simple silhouettes and easy-to-wear fabrics. Sea usually includes navy as one of the main colors in their designs, which is just fine with me. This lightweight dress with crepe detailing is so easy to throw on and go. I kept it simple and paired it with a scarf from Zara and adidas sneakers. My favorite part? No purse necessary, since Sea is dedicated to putting pockets in the majority of their clothes (seriously—why isn’t this the norm?).
I’m happy to see that major trends are pushing for comfort and ease in women’s clothing. Finding something you’re comfortable in that is easy to style can change your whole outlook on the day. Find a simple, flattering silhouette and stick with it, then use accessories to change it up from day to day.
