With spring in full swing, everyone seems just a little bit happier. Birds are chirping, kids are playing and sundresses are officially a thing again. For someone like me whose favorite color is black and spends her time layering her looks, spring fashion is a whole new genre.
Over the years, I’ve learned to master the bright colors and flowy skirts while still staying true to my edgy style. The first thing I’ve learned is that layering is still acceptable in the spring; it’s almost more fun in the warmer weather because a heavy coat doesn’t cover up your outfit. Second, white sneakers are a must. And finally, playing with textures and patterns will bring an artistic edge to any outfit.
When I think of spring, I think of grassy fields and people dancing freely. Spring brings the rebirth of beautiful flowers and butterflies. Hopes are high and smiles are brighter. I tried to incorporate these feelings into my outfit, and every outfit I wear when the sun is shining.
This outfit was inspired by Giambattista Valli’s spring 2016 couture collection. Valli’s collection was a tribute to the beautiful gardens in the city of Paris after the devastating attacks in November. The models flaunted a mix of floral patterns and earth tones tailored at short lengths. The romantic ruffles, embroidery, sequins and tulle were coupled with modern, structured shapes. Giambattista Valli is known for his over-the-top feminine designs, which never fail to bring a smile to my face. My hidden girly self would love to play dress up in his closet.
As always, accessories are a necessity. It has become a game digging through my jewelry to find the perfect pieces for each outfit. Warm weather calls for a wrist full of bracelets and too many rings to even count them.
