It’s no secret that I’m still not over the magnificence that was the Alexander Wang fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. New York Fashion Week has been over for nearly a month, but I’m still fawning over each look from Wang’s show. I always love seeing a bit of grunge and edginess on the runway, and this collection did not fail to deliver. Wang took a risk with an almost entirely all-black collection, which certainly appealed to the New Yorker in me. But it was the two unexpected blue jean looks that really captured my attention and inspired my outfit.
I know I wasn’t the only one who was surprised by the sweater-and-jeans combinations that suddenly emerged toward the middle of the show. The bulk of the ensembles in this collection exhibited a sense of edgy elegance, using chains and studs on materials such as leather and satin. While the use of studs was carried over onto the sweaters, these laid back looks brought a very different vibe to the runway.
As I have an unmistakable weak spot for trusty sweaters and stonewash denim, I immediately wanted to recreate these outfits. I threw on my favorite pair of boyfriend jeans (which actually used to be my father’s work pants before I claimed them in the name of fashion) with huge slashes in each knee. Although quite loose fitting, my black turtleneck sweater adds the slightest amount of sophistication against the stained and ripped denim. My shoes, although inspired by Balenciaga’s Ceinture boots, are reminiscent of the chunky shoes present in the Wang collection. Finally, I finished my look off with a small drawstring backpack, some glitter socks and holographic sunglasses to add a personal touch.
Get My Look: 1. Destroyed boyfriend jeans. 2. Oversized fisherman’s sweater. 3. Exaggerated platform boots.
