It’s safe to say I am feeling the heat after only being back in Raleigh for a mere four days, but I am finding solace in the hopeless southern summer with my new go-to look. In search of an easy everyday look, I landed on my favorite versatile style of the moment—sporty-chic. I’ve found this look to be incredibly flexible. You can use the same staple pieces to create a chic look or keep it casual. By combining typically feminine elements with cool athletic influenced pieces, you can create a unique look that can transition from day to night quite easily.
I can’t think of many designers who do casual cool better than Alexander Wang. Throughout his career he has managed to create clean-cut, yet fun collections time and again. His 2016 spring read-to-wear collection featured sporty jackets, flirty dresses paired with athletic sneakers and mesh details throughout. Feminine silhouettes with a little sporty flare have been a killer trend in the past few seasons, both on the runway and in street styles.
Taking inspiration from the Alexander Wang collection, I pulled together some of my favorite pieces for this look. This jacket provides a perfect balance of sporty and sweet with its varsity stripe detail, combined with the pastel pink of this lightweight bomber. Along with that, I opted for a mesh, T-shirt dress that I paired with some easy black basics underneath. I love this breezy little dress because there are so many ways to wear it, and it’s a new take on a little black dress for summer—plus it’s a great way to beat the heat! And just south of my ankles are my new favorite kicks. I never thought I would be one to sport adidas sneakers, until I saw how crazy versatile they are. I wear them with everything—everyday athletic wear for classes, midi skirts with crop tops and of course, little dresses like this. To tie this look together, I topped it off with some killer shades and a crisp white bag with black detailing.
I’ve never been one to subscribe to a set style, so being able to mix and match elements from different genres by combining feminine colors and silhouettes with sporty accessories really appeals to me, and I hope it does the same for you!
