Alexander Wang celebrated his 10th anniversary this past September when he showcased his ready-to-wear spring 2016 collection on the runway. His collection consisted of a lot of street inspired pieces. According to Vogue, he perfectly captured the downtown cool girl style. His pieces included denim, leather, stripes, pajama silks, crop tops and fringe. Almost all of his outfits involved black and white with pops of color here and there. The dominant presence of his black pieces gave all the models a grungy tone. Wang’s collection inspired me to pull out my inner city girl style and get a little edgy.
I’ve had these pants for over four years but haven’t found myself reaching for them very often the past couple of years. I kept them for the sole reason of maybe needing them one day. Needless to say, I am terrible at getting rid of clothes. Despite that, I’m happy to say that my clothes hoarding came in handy. After being inspired by Wang’s wide legged striped pants, I was able to fall in love with my bottoms all over again. One thing I love about this trend is that the vertical stripes make my legs look longer because at 5’2″ I need all the help I can get!
When putting together the rest of the outfit, I knew I wanted to keep his edgy vibe by wearing all black. Since Wang used leather in a few of his ensembles, I didn’t hesitate to reach for my favorite leather jacket. I also picked a crop top since he used them with many of his outfits as well. To pull the look together, I had to pull out my dark lipstick. I realized I’ve been so busy wearing nude lipstick colors lately, that I forgot how much I love a dark lip. I loved that Wang’s collection made me re-discover my love for an edgier style. Sometimes we get stuck on wearing what we see is popular on social media that we forget to make things our own or try new things. Don’t get stuck in a routine of wearing the same thing all the time. Try something new; chances are you’ll like stepping outside of your comfort zone!
