It’s no surprise that the ’70s trend has still been around this winter season. In my opinion the ’70s were such an iconic era. The style of the time went so well with the social movements that were unfolding. It was all about earthy tones, soft and flowing fabrics and DIY accessories and details. I think it’s safe to say we’re back to an era of social change in 2016, and our style is a direct testament to that.
When it comes to my own style, I’ve been very inspired by Balmain’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. This show took ’70s style and put a very cool, modern twist on it with the metal hardware as well as the sharp makeup and hairstyles. My favorite ensembles were the ones featuring suede, fringe, lace-up pieces and earthy colors. I’ve been seeing all of these elements at every retailer recently.
In this outfit, I decided to try out my new suede lace-up dress. My friends bought it for me because they said it’s “me in a piece of clothing.” They were definitely right, and they shouldn’t be surprised if I’m living in this dress for the next few months! I absolutely love the earthy olive green color of it; I think it pairs so well with the ’70s style of the dress. In order to add a little hardness to my outfit, like I saw in the Balmain show, I paired the dress with these awesome black platform Chelsea boots. I absolutely love how modern these look with the clear sole. To add some metal to the look, I went with this really cool coin necklace. I think it offers a perfect tribute to the ’70s with its homemade look. I layered a softer velvet necklace on top of it to go with the texture of the suede dress. Then I added my favorite retro glasses. As a final touch, I kept my hair and makeup simple and sleek, like the models on the runway. I absolutely adore this look, and I feel dressed to take on any cause!
