To me, Sonia Rykiel’s pre-fall 2015 show was like a dreamy walk through ’70s Paris. Head creative director Julie de Libran has managed to elevate typical ’70s silhouettes and motifs like fur and trench coats from costume-like to utterly chic. The pieces and color palette all had a certain dream-like quality that recalls the filmography of Sofia Coppola. The hair and beauty were kept low-key; the models sported nice, casual waves with rosy cheeks and lips. This collection has made dated trends feel new, and they would be equally at home on Lauren Hutton or a young Fashionista of today.
An element I chose to highlight from this collection is the suede skirt. The particular skirt I chose also has buttons down the front, which is another major trend seen from several of my favorite designers such as Rachel Comey and Band of Outsiders. Suede skirts have such a retro, yet fresh, look that reminds me of French new-wave films.
Some great pieces to pair with a suede skirt would be thick, textured tights and a cropped turtleneck sweater. Since it is winter and there’s still snow on the ground, I did have to throw on a fitted parka, just to be practical. I’m a fan of dressing up outfits with hats so, for this look, you could grab a cute beret or be more boho with a floppy hat like I chose to wear. For footwear, black booties are a good staple that would work here. I opted for some cute clogs with a heart motif to add a folksy feel to the look.
Get My Look: 1. A suede skirt. 2. A floppy hat. 3. Some cute clogs.
