STYLE GURU STYLE: Summer's Last Stand

As the fun of the weekend has come and gone, we begin to edge our way into something most people dread; autumn. Everyone knows what this means. The joy and freedom of summer die and we become swallowed in our rigorous schoolwork once again. Yuck. Although spending eight hours slumped in a desk at the library each day doesn’t sound too appealing, I personally think autumn gets a pretty bad rap. Yeah we have school, but with this comes gamedays, apple cider, a new season of your favorite TV show, Halloween, you name it.

Not only this, but autumn is my absolute favorite stylistically. It makes for the perfect climate for layering and fall colors like burgundies and browns are to die for. I couldn’t be more eager to pull out my cashmere sweaters, comfy knits and motorcycle leggings. However, mother nature doesn’t agree and the past few days have been exhaustingly humid right when I decided to say “adios” to the last of my summer essentials. To beat the heat on the way to class, I threw on this simple dress in my favorite color, black! Can you tell? It’s comfortable and easy while also looking like I didn’t just roll out of bed, even though I did. I protected my sensitive skin from the harsh rays with my all-time favorite autumn piece, this black brim hat. It instantly adds edge to an otherwise basic look and it almost never leaves my head during the more brisk months.

I channeled my nostalgia for summer by wearing this intricate necklace I bought at a music festival earlier in June. Together, these seasonal favorites created a fun and functional look. It might be fall, but I’m embracing the lasting days of summer for as long as I can.
