If you were to look into my closet you would quickly realize that I have an overwhelming amount of monochrome pieces, everything from jeans, dresses and tops. You could say I am a bit obsessed, but for good reasons. Monochrome is essential in a wardrobe to pull a look off in my opinion, and there is an endless amount of options for outfits.
When I stumbled upon Orla Kiely’s resort 2016 collection, I was immediately hooked. Majority of her pieces are monochromatic with a ‘70s twist. Working in collaboration with Leith Clark, the duo drew inspiration from the early ‘70s, which is currently making a huge comeback and sweeping fashion with baby doll dress and the amish. Although this may seem like an odd combination of fashions, Kiely pulls everything together beautifully, complete with bib collar necklines, ruffles and bold daisy prints. I could easily see every outfit of this collection hanging in my closet!
When recreating this look, I had no problem putting together similar pieces from my own wardrobe. Unlike the original look, I played around with texture and pattern to make a visually attractive outfit.
My restyled look includes a cropped, striped knitted sweater, an A-line black dress, a teal and mint statement necklace and a black structured bag all from Forever 21, along with black combat heeled boots from the Bethany Mota collection. All of these pieces are some of my most worn items, and putting them altogether made this outfit that much better. The look is simple yet chic, and oh-so cute without being too girly, perfect for date night. This look inspired by Kiely really swept me off my feet.
Get My Look: 1. An A-line dress. 2. Any crop top. 3. A chic structured bag.
