One of the most challenging obstacles for me as I near the end of the semester is finding motivation. Motivation to do my classwork, to do chores and to put together an outfit that doesn’t include leggings and a sweatshirt. Luckily, fall and winter are all about comfort and layering, and with a little extra effort I find that simple pieces can make a totally chic outfit. So if you suffer from end-of-the-semesteritis like I do, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
For me, basics are key. I love all things neutral and find that mixing and matching neutrals can bring them from boring to totally fashion forward. From my blue jeans to my army green sweater, this outfit is comprised of staple pieces that I can wear with a number of other things.
What really brings the outfit together, in my opinion, is the suede coat and suede booties combination. Suede is all the rage right now, and wearing two suede materials at once really elevates the outfit. I also love the quilted detailing on the coat; it’s a subtle, yet chic feature that makes the whole ensemble a little more interesting.
For a little more visual interest (and for added warmth) I added a large-print scarf. This breaks up the brown tones of my coat and shoes and proves that black does go with brown. I am a huge fan of adding statement pieces to otherwise simple outfits, and when it’s cold out, a fun scarf is a Fashionista’s best friend.
I finished off the outfit with a warm knit beanie in grey, to tie in with the scarf. A beanie is perfect for freezing mornings, or for those bad hair days (like I was having…shhh). It also adds a bit of winter flair and really screams December.
