For the fall/winter 2015 season, the ’70s came back in a big way. Last season the influence of the ‘90s popped up in every other show, but a new decade seemed to inspire plenty of designers this time around. There was an abundance of bell bottom pants, platform shoes, oversized coats and A-line skirts. Jill Stuart’s fall/winter 2015 collection was no exception to the trend. Go-go boots, patent leather, suede and earth tones showed up in her collection and it all looked like so much fun, I had to try it myself.
A few months ago, I stumbled across a genuine suede A-line skirt while perusing the Forever 21 online store. It wasn’t terribly expensive so I had to give it a shot. I’m incredibly happy I did. This skirt can be worn with anything from a chunky knit fisherman’s sweater and boots in the winter to a lightweight T-shirt and white tennis shoes in the spring. Although the looks that went down the runway were meant for next fall rather than early spring, I had to make some changes and translated the look to make it more appropriate for warmer weather. I chose my trusty denim jacket and a black turtleneck to wear with my ‘70s-esque skirt. I finished off the look with a pair of pointed black-heeled boots. Whip out your flared jeans and your fur coats because the ’70s are making their way back to 2015.
