While new and innovative fashion trends are showcased each season, many trendsetters take inspiration from the past. Just as ‘90s grunge has been a huge trend in the last year, we’ve seen ‘70s style make a comeback as well. Major trends of the ‘70s, such as jumpsuits, peasant tops and bell bottom jeans, can easily be incorporated into any Fashionista’s wardrobe to achieve a retro vibe.
I took inspiration from the Gucci resort 2016 runway show to create a look of my own. The collection showcased vintage-inspired ensembles with colorful prints, including chevron and bold florals. While some pieces channeled more of a ‘60s vibe, the ‘70s were obviously present through the incorporation of knits, ruffles and bell sleeves.
I paid tribute to the ‘70s in a pair of flared jeans with a medium wash. The distressed details near the pockets add a contrasting modern touch.
The flared jeans paired with a heel give even the longest legs some extra length. I chose brown leather espadrille wedges to pair with my look. Another great option to continue the retro theme would be a clog-inspired sandal.
For the top, I chose a blouse with warm coloring and a bold geometric print. The peasant style sleeves add a level of femininity, which is very much reflective of my personal style, while reflecting ’70s style. For my accessories I chose to layer simple gold chain necklaces and I wore a small leather cross-body bag which coordinated nicely with my wedges.
