STYLE GURU STYLE: The Almighty LBD

This week, I ditched my usual affinity for casual clothing by taking a walk on the dressier side of things. I tackled the ultimate challenge of adapting a couture look for my own wardrobe after gaining inspiration from Atelier Versace’s spring 2015 couture collection. Filled with a stunning array of red, blue, black and white dresses, this collection is 100 percent red carpet worthy. Sheer panels, cutouts, slits and a few plunging necklines allowed the models to show some skin in an artistically intricate way.

Over the past few years, I’ve had a total change of heart in regards to black clothing. I used to avoid black dresses and shirts like the plague because I was worried they made my genetically scrawny self look too skinny, as black is known to have slimming effects. Now I have adopted a new mindset in regards to the color. I see it as a universally appealing color no matter what your body type may be. With this newfound appreciation for the color and this couture collection, I decided to take the plunge and wear my Gianni Bini little black dress for a night out on the town with my gal pals.

I fully embraced the color black with this look by opting for black pumps as well, saving the pop of color for my deep fuchsia lipstick. The sheer cutouts are subtly sexy without going over the top and leave just enough to the imagination. Adding a muted gold cuff and snake ring was a must to spice up this look, as the neckline was too busy to allow for my usual statement necklace. If you want to change things up from your plain LBD, one with mesh cutouts like those of Atelier Versace’s collection could be just what you’re looking for.

Get My Look: 1. A little black dress with sheer cutout panels. 2. A killer pair of strappy black heels. 3. A quirky ring.
