Every now and then, I feel a little bit of nostalgia for my childhood. I think back to the carefree days of playing with Barbie dolls and watching Disney Channel to my heart’s content. But those days are long gone, and I have to live in the present. Thankfully, many designers also get a feeling a nostalgia when creating the season’s most fascinating designs. The pre-fall 2015 Calvin Klein Collection was no exception with the imagery of babydoll silhouettes and innocent shades of beige and white. Calvin Klein designer, Francisco Costa, tapped into the vintage time machine and pulled out looks that would make the It Girls of the ‘60s envious. He kept the babydoll silhouette updated with the quintessential Calvin Klein mark of modernism. I decided to replicate the look with my own version of the babydoll dress.
Since the weather is still relatively cold in most places, it is slightly impractical to wear just the babydoll dress. You can spice it up with winter elements by practicing the art of layering. With a statement dress as the base, add a chunky wool scarf for a layer of warmth. You can infuse a little bit of menswear in the ensemble to complement the dress with a structured round neck coat. I love to mix and match feminine and masculine styles, so a babydoll dress with a structured jacket gives off a taste of my personal style.
